Job Description

Work LocationUNHQ. This internship is designed to be full-time. Duties may be carried out in a hybrid manner (a combination of in-person presence and telecommuting from within the duty station at the UN Headquarters in New York). Telecommuting from outside the duty station may be considered on an exceptional basis. A part-time schedule may also be considered on an exceptional basis depending on the individual situation of the selected candidate. Expected duration2-6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis internship offers a unique opportunity to support the social media outreach and digital promotion efforts of the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD). Working closely with the Division’s communications team, the intern will gain hands-on experience in planning and producing content for Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram and YouTube to promote the activities, priorities and key messages of the Division. Through direct involvement in the communication of major DISD events, campaigns and policy initiatives, including follow-up to the Doha Political Declaration, the intern will strengthen skills in public information, digital storytelling, social media strategy and international communications, while contributing to efforts to advance inclusive social development for all. Description of the internship project(s), tasks, and responsibilities • Support the development of social media content for Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram and YouTube to promote the activities and priorities of DISD. • Draft social media posts, captions, key messages and short promotional texts related to major DISD events, campaigns, observances and publications. • Assist in promoting the Doha Political Declaration and its follow-up through engaging and accessible digital content. • Support the preparation of social media content for major events organized by DISD, including intergovernmental meetings, side events, International Days and other public outreach initiatives. • Help identify and package highlights, quotes, photos, short videos and other multimedia materials for social media dissemination. • Assist in coordinating content calendars and ensuring timely promotion of upcoming events and activities. • Monitor social media performance and engagement trends • Support the review and updating of web and social media content to ensure consistency in messaging across platforms. The intern will gain practical experience in supporting digital communications and social media outreach for a UN Division. The intern will learn how content is planned, developed, adapted and disseminated across social media platforms to promote major UN priorities, events and policy messages, while contributing to the visibility of DISD’s work, including outreach related to the Doha Political Declaration and other major Division-led initiatives. The intern may attend relevant intergovernmental meetings, side events, communication planning meetings and other discussions related to inclusive social development, in order to gain exposure to the work of UN DESA and DISD. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
