FORESTRY AIDE – GOLD FIELDS DISTRICT / FOLSOM LAKE STATE RECREATION AREA “Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

The reporting location for this position is the Gold Fields District Sector Office located at 7755 Folsom Auburn Road, Folsom, CA 95630. The Forestry Aide works under the Folsom Sector Maintenance Chief I, with direction and guidance from the Worker ll, Worker I, PMA or Heavy Equipment Operator.

This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation . This position is designated as not telework eligible.  Working weekends, nights, and overtime hours may be required. The weekly schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

The Forestry Aide is a higher-level maintenance crewmember than the standard crewmember (Maintenance Aide). The position is experienced and proficient in crewmember duties and may assist with on-the-job training of entry level crewmembers and leading maintenance crews, volunteer, conservation crew work projects. The FA position will primarily  perform manual labor to restore, protect, and enhance CA State Park’s natural resources, and trail system, often in remote locations away from roads and facilities. This job requires working outdoors in inclement weather and smoky conditions related to prescribed fire. Chainsaw and Basic Firefighter training must be attended when available.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

Working Conditions

Working conditions include a combination of office work and outdoor work.

Work outdoors in variable weather conditions including rain, heat, and cold.

Work includes hiking up and down steep hills with field equipment.

Work in hazardous situations (e.g., around fire, chemicals, poison oak, etc).

During the district’s prescribed burn season, the position may work variable hours including weekends and nights.

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Current basic fire fighter certification (FF Type II), GPS/GIS, chain saw use and tree felling experience are a plus.
