Job Description

Flying Bark Productions is a dynamic and innovative animation studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of character animation and storytelling. We are working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Ghostbusters animated series and Stranger Things animated series as well as upcoming feature film, Zac Power.

The Production Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the day to day finance operations of Flying Bark’s animation productions. This includes budgeting, forecasting, tracking expenses, payroll, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal financial policies. Dual reporting to LA and HQ Finance (located in Sydney). 

About the Role

• Own and maintain production budgets for animation projects, including budget simulations and ongoing forecast updates
• Partner closely with Producers to develop department-level forecasts aligned with crew planning and production needs
• Prepare monthly cost reports and financial summaries for senior production and finance leadership
• Support project bidding by partnering with Producers to build budgets and finalize external client bids
• Oversee crew-related financial tracking, including payroll coordination, union requirements, rate questions, and location-based cost impacts
• Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring alignment with contracts, purchase orders, and approved production budgets
• Monitor cash flow and payment schedules to ensure timely payments to vendors and stakeholders
• Support internal and external audits to ensure financial accuracy and regulatory compliance

About You

• 5+ years of experience in production accounting, preferably within animation or VFX
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience; CPA a plus
• Strong proficiency in production accounting software Greenslate and Microsoft Excel 
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O)
• Experience in Power BI, including building dashboards, data modeling, and report visualization
• Working knowledge of the animation production pipeline, including department structures and cost drivers
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating across teams, vendors, and clients
• Proven ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve financial issues while keeping productions on budget and on schedule
